High concentrations of plastic debris in the ocean

I found a video about parts of the ocean that collect floating plastic debris in a kind of gigantic whirl pool called a Gyre. Basically, tons of plastics that are thrown into the ocean get caught in these circular currents, which end up leaving large concentrations of plastic fragments floating in the water. Animals eat the plastic, and non-native species attach themselves to it, causing biotic mixing, where no-native species populate in areas they shouldn't be. Check out the videos, they're pretty interesting.

just so you know from someone who has taken a shit tone of oceanography this video is 90% b.s. and half the facts are wrong or flat out lies. 1st these guys don't even know what a fucking gyer is. 2nd the middle of the oceans, at lest the top parts, are the lest productive spots on the planet (well that is kinda debatable now). 3rd 85% of the oceans life exists withing 200 miles of the coast(also debatable but thats if you include phytoplankton no one has ever researched). 4th these guys are hippies not scientist, just cuz it sucks shit makes it that far doesn't mean its the end of the world. Abandoned fishing nets and lines are 50000% time worse. Ya it sucks for this shit to happen but these assholes are acting like its a huge problem while 20 other things I can think of affect wild life 1000 time worse. This video is more about the bullshit green lofe everyone is into now than it is about fixing real problems.
